Ice Road Runners...

Wednesday, January 19, 2011  at 6:02 PM

Yesterday was the first day of training for the Holy Half.  Good Ole Hal Higdon had us running 3 miles as a start, so that's what we did.  Nick, the guy I'm running with, and Taryn, his wife were troopers and piled on the clothes to run with Jenn and me.  It was the first time we had all run together, but it worked out well.  We started at the front of Andrews University but were soon on the roads around the school.  There is a ton of snow on the ground and there were quite a few icy spots on the roads.  After about a mile and a half, Nick and I picked up the pace a bit and ran together for awhile.  It felt REALLY good to be running again!     It was the hottest day of the week at 34 degrees, so tonight's run will be even colder.  I usually like the cold because I don't overheat.

Tonight's run is going to be some intervals.  I'm pretty excited about that, so pray that we don't blow out an ankle on the ice!

Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog! That's funny that we're doing the same HIM as our first and I'm doing a Half-Marathon April 17th - just one week after yours! I'll definately be following you to see how you're doing. Good luck with the training and be careful on the icy sidewalks!

Hey Matt, Great story!

Steelhead was an awesome venue. We had an amazing time completing it and the volunteers were out of this world.

Good luck this year as you guys train for it!

Let me know if you have any questions, my race report (you can search for it on my blog) was pretty much everything I experienced that day.

Another blogger, Kevin Neuman, Ironman by 30 did Steelhead as well.

Thanks for following my blog! As for your comment about me being fast - that's a first :) I'm doing ok with the shorter distances, but finding endurance to be a challenge. Anything more than 10k, and I burn out. Oh well, that's what training is for! I'll be following your progress....good luck!
